Now in our 9th year, the Vintage Offroad Nationals will be rolling out a new and exciting line up of events, features and a totally new schedule that allows racers to be even more involved than ever before!
Celebrity Q&A and Meet and Greet
To kick off the news, this year the Vonats will feature a special guest Q&A evening on Friday Sept 16. The event will feature some surprise guests to talk about their racing careers and some old stories from back in the day! Come ready because as a member of the audience, you’ll also get to fire off some questions of your own and join us for a meet and greet, autographs and pictures afterward. What a great way to kick off an awesome weekend!
New Class
Also new for this year, we’re excited to launch a Vintage Nats exclusive; the Wheelie class. Similar to Heavy Metal, Wheelie is a monster truck class reserved for Tamiya’s smaller scale “wheelie” type monster trucks including the Tamiya Lunchbox, Midnight Pumpkin and others. All trucks must race box stock with the exception of radio gear and batteries and this level playing field class promises to be an awesome new feature for some great racing and exciting fun.
Split Schedule
In the past, racing has been broken up into Qualifying one day and Mains on the other but for this year the Vonats is going to give racers the opportunity to get more bang for their buck by breaking up the racing a little differently:
Saturday – Practice, Quals and Mains for the following:
• Classic
• Heavy Metal
• Wheelie
Sunday – Practice, Quals and Mains for the following:
• 2WD
• 4WD
• Stadium Truck
Our hope in doing this is that it will allow racers to try both serious and fun styles of racing and give everyone more time to focus on their cars while promoting a relaxed environment. Let’s all have as much fun as legally possible!
New Partnership – Retro World Expo 2016
The Vintage Offroad Nationals has partnered with Retro World Expo for 2016 to bring some awesome new ideas to RC racing! For possibly the first time in RC racing history, the Vonats combines the world of radio control cars with the world of vintage/retro gaming and joins forces with the CT’s premier vintage video game event to bring a new level of fun to the race weekend. Retro World Expo 2016 will be on hand to give racers some time at the controller with titles such as Nintendo’s RC Pro Am and others. The Expo will be held at the Toyota Oakdale Theater on Oct 15-16th and features classic and retro video, tabletop, and homebrew gaming as well as anime, action figures, comic books and tons more. For more info check them out on Facebook and on their website at RetroWorldExpo.com. Who doesn’t love old school video games!
